Mandibular Condylar HyperplasiaBackground
AGE: 9 years
COMMUNITY: Zarzal, El Paraíso
DIAGNOSTIC: Mandibular Condylar Hyperplasia
During one of our Medical Brigades that took place in El Zarzal, El Paraíso, we met this cute girl named Alexandra. She went with her family to the brigade looking for medications for different symptoms they were experiencing at the moment. When the doctor was checking Alexandra, they could instantly tell she has a deformity on her face. After asking a little bit more about the situation, we found out that she has already had different surgeries. She was born with mandibular condylar hyperplasia, which is an overdevelopment of the condylar head and neck as well as the mandible, creating jaw and facial deformities.
Next Steps
Alexandra needs another corrective surgery. Luckily for this little girl Operation Smile is already helping her and is going to take care of the surgery she needs, but her family has trouble attending the medical appointments because they have no money for transportation. Therefore we want to help Alexandra and her family make this surgery possible by raising funds in order to pay for their transportation in order to make it to the appointments in Tegucigalpa. They spend approximately $50 on each visit.
